How To Inspire Young Writers

Hey everyone.

Inspiring young people to be creative writers
My passion for writing has always been part of my life. I ‘wrote’ my first book in preschool, and I have been writing ever since. I have always been in love with words, and the power they have to inspire someone to greatness and touch their hearts.
While there has been a down turn in print books, newspapers and magazines, people are still reading. EBooks and online publications, such as blogs, now mean that anyone with the internet and a smartphone can access just about every piece of knowledge ever written.
Adults and children should be reading each day, and it is up to us writers to give them as much reading material as we can.
Being a creative writer is a worthy aim and regardless of age, should be something you strive for if you have a passion for it. But, how do you get started? Where do you begin? How can you be a successful writer?
Thinking about writing is easy. Starting a story is easy. The hard part comes in finishing your story, and getting it published.
Don’t be afraid to draw from your own experiences
All great writers draw from their own experiences in life. Even those who write Sci Fi or Steampunk, for example. While you may be drawn to strange and new worlds, remember that your experiences are your own.
In other words, regardless of where the plot is set, the characters you create will face issues and adversity. Your experiences will shape how these characters develop and grow.
Be Creative
When contemplating what you are going to write about I have three pieces of advice – 1) Be creative, 2) be confident, and 3) don’t overthink it.
Let your imagination go wild, and don’t worry if you think your ideas have been used before. Chances are they have, but not in the way you are going to use them. Remember, hundreds of people publish books each day and many of the subjects are similar if, not the same. What makes each book stand out is the unique person who created them.
Be Confident
Be confident to write and have belief in your own ability. If you are writing for the first time you may not produce the best work of all. In fact, you are not meant to.

Writing is an art form that takes many years to hone. The more you write, the better you will become so don’t wait to become great, start writing now and begin the process.
Don’t overthink writing
Don’t overthink what you want to write about. Put pen to paper and fingers to keyboards and just start. If you get stuck and you are not sure how to proceed, grab a piece of paper and record what you can see out of the window (or something else equally unimportant). This will make sure your creativity streams forward and your story reaches its completion.
